What is a breast lift in Turkey?
Breast lift, termed also mastopexy, is a common cosmetic procedure that women often consider after experiencing sagging breasts after pregnancy, nursing, and child care.
Breasts are constantly changing during a lifetime. Droopiness is the most common appearance of breasts in the aging process. In addition to pregnancy, there are various elements responsible for breast shape, such as increase or decrease in body weight, genetics, and the natural aging process. All these may deform breast shape and decrease the young look. The quality of the skin covering the breasts inherently decreases in elasticity as one ages. Over time, gravity pulls the tissues down which eventually results in the breasts to sag.
Breast lift surgery lifts the breast and eliminates the excessive skin with a tightening of the surrounding tissue. The breast lift can be done by itself or in combination with breast implants or reduction, according to the patient’s preference. While a breast lift does not enhance the size of the breasts rather the breasts feel firm and can appear younger looking.
What causes saggy breasts?
Some factors given below cause sagging breasts also referred to as breast ptosis
- Aging (The decrease in the elasticity of the skin breast tissue)
- Hormonal changes
- Pregnancy
- Weight gain or loss
- Menopause
Aging has a profound effect on the skin which makes it sag and wrinkle. This higher breast mass, which is more prone to the effects of gravity, causes sagging breasts. Wearing a bra or not wearing one as well as breastfeeding won't cause sagging breasts however pregnancy or numerous pregnancies can contribute to breast ptosis.
How do I know if I need a boob lift?
You will understand answering the questions below whether you need breast lift surgery or not.
- Is one of my breasts lower than the other or does droop?
- Have my breasts an elongated shape?
- Do I have inverted nipples or areolas?
- Do my nipples drop lower than my breast crease?
If you answer yes to any of the above questions then you may be a candidate for a mastopexy and the surest way to find this out is by scheduling a consultation with one of our skilled surgeons.
What are the benefits of breast lift in Turkey?
There are several advantages of breast lift procedures that not only improve the appearance of the breasts but also help a person's psychological status and life quality.
A breast lift provides one of the major advantages which is the restoration of the shape of sagging breasts. Eventually, there are things like gravity, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and natural aging, which may result in breasts that look like they have lost some volume and got saggy. In a breast lift, the breast tissue is surgically raised, and the breasts are returned to a position where they appear more full and feel tighter to the touch. This most crucial aspect delivers a more youthful and vibrant look with the breast looking perkier and the upper body appearing sculpted and contoured.
In addition to cosmetic augmentation, by properly adjusting and lifting the pectoral tissue, this procedure significantly corrects the breast's symmetry, thus improving body proportions and balance.
The medical benefits of a breast lift are related to the alleviation of medical problems resulting from sagging breasts. Conditions like breast folds itching and rashes may be uncomfortable and be hard to manage. Through the elevation of the breasts and the eradication of any excess skin, most of these patients experience relief from these symptoms that will, consequently, improve their daily well-being and health.
On an emotional and psychological level, a breast lift gives good results. Many of our patients say that their body confidence and self-esteem have increased greatly after their surgery. In addition to this, the aesthetic benefits of a breast lift give you more freedom to choose your fashion style and the clothes that you wear. Patients often express how wonderful it is again to feel more at ease and comfortable in suits, fitted tops, and other clothing styles they might not have considered before their surgery.
Types of breast lifts
Several incision types can be used for this procedure, each of which has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. The lollipop lift, anchor lift, doughnut lift or peri-areolar incision, and crescent lift are the most commonly used breast lift techniques.
Anchor lift
Anchor lift is the technique of choice for women who develop severe sagging. The incisions for this procedure are similar to those in the lollipop lift, but an additional horizontal incision is placed along the breast crease, creating an inverted T or anchor shape. This technique is for patients who want a considerable combined breast lift.
Lollipop lift
The lollipop lift technique entails a circular cut around the areola, followed by an incision to the breast crease. This technique is for those people with moderate sags and those who don't want to have implants added.
Doughnut lift
The doughnut lift, also known as the peri-areolar incision technique, means making an incision just around the areola. This method is less invasive and is appropriate for patients who wish to move their nipples into a more pleasing place and at the same time to tighten the skin around their breasts. This procedure can also be used in conjunction with implants for a more dramatic effect.
Crescent lift
Last but not least, the crescent lift is the least invasive of all breast lifting procedures. This approach consists of making a semicircular incision on the top part of the areola that works well for patients who exclusively need a small alteration on the nipple and areola.
The other two methods are fillers. The techniques that I will apply will ensure that you get the desired results with minimal scarring. Your surgeon will decide the best approach for your case.
When deciding on which technique we should choose, we will need to think about several things, including:
- The size and the shape of your breasts.
- How much lift the aircraft will need for take-off?
- How elastic is your skin?
- Your preferences
Breast lift surgery
Usually, you will be required to come an hour early before your surgery time.
Once admitted:
- The nursing team will take your blood pressure and prepare you for surgery.
- The Turkish surgeon will explain the procedure for the second time and he/she will address your questions.
- Preoperative photos will be taken.
- Your chest will be done up and readied for surgery.
The procedure:
- A general anesthetic will be given out by the anesthesiologist.
- A key-hole-shaped incision that circles the areola, extends downwards and follows the natural curve of the crease beneath the breast will be made.
- The extra skin will be trimmed out under the breast.
- The areola and nipple will be repositioned further up the breast.
- Then, the skin will be pulled down from both sides of the breast and around the areola until the new breast curve is formed.
- This will be done with absorbable sutures and tape applied.
- Then you will be put on a surgical bra that you will wake up in.
- Then, you will be taken to a breast lift recovery room where you can stay until the next day.

Is breast lift surgery painful?
No, because breast lift surgery is done under general anaesthetic you will not feel anything during the breast lift procedure.
Local anesthetic is typically used at the end of the procedure to try to minimize pain when the patient wakes up.
Every patient differs in response to breast uplift procedures. Usually, any pain or discomfort can be easily managed by pain medication, which will be prescribed by your surgeon. There are some pain and discomfort in the first days but it does not last long and quickly vanishes for the majority of people.
Does mastopexy leave a scar?
Yes, the breast lift operation involves mastopexy scars. The extent of scarring is policy-dependent on the kind of procedure used, as well as the individual factors of healing. Usually, the breast lift incisions are made around the areola, and a vertical incision is made to the end of the chest by the fold to give a lollipop shape to the scar. When a more standard incision is added across the crease on the fold, it can be transformed into an anchor-shaped scar.
However, these scars will remain hidden as they will be hidden under the natural folds

Short-haul flights are permitted 4-5 days after the procedure while long-haul flights must be avoided for a week.

All patients tend to return to work approximately 1 week after the procedure, provided their job position does not involve lifting or stretching. However, everybody heals uniquely so the time you need to take off depends on the patient.
Will my breasts be smaller after a breast lift procedure?
Usually no. The breast lift procedure aims to lift the breasts to a higher position. However, it can involve the removal of a small amount of excessive skin. The breast size will reduce if a large amount of skin is removed. If you want to reduce the size of your breasts then a breast reduction is a better choice because how much size can be lost during a lift procedure is extremely minimal.
Can I have a breast augmentation at the same time as a breast lift?
Yes, you can have. It is possible to have the breast augmentation at the same time as the breast lift surgery. However, it is often found that the surgeon gets better results by performing the procedures in two separate stages. Breast implants used during breast augmentation surgery can negatively affect to healing of breast lift incisions due to press. The 2 stage procedures also help the patient choose an implant more accurately based on the new look of their chest. In some cases, the operation is still carried out at the same time but this depends on the surgeon's preference.
Can a breast lift surgery correct asymmetry?
Yes, breast lift commonly has the effect of correcting the asymmetry. At other times, this procedure might not be able to correct asymmetry. In other situations, the breast asymmetry can be caused by the chest wall rather than the breast which cannot be corrected by a breast uplift operation. Breast asymmetry can be discussed with a plastic surgeon in Turkey during a consultation which will allow them to come up with a personalized treatment plan for you.

It is generally recommended to wear the surgical bra for 6 weeks from the surgery with no breaks.
